    Lockdown restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic meant travel abroad was strictly limited but I discovered that exploring my local area could be just as rewarding. Both these places are in the English county of Hertfordshire. I did manage a brief sojourn in Latvia and its capital Riga before lockdown closed us down again.     Contrary to rumours that Spilve Aerodrome outside Riga was abandoned I was delighted to discover that is thriving and features one of the few Stalinist-era buildings in Riga, a magnificent terminal building. Nearby is the unique Latvia Soviet Aviation Museum currently based next to Riga International Airport. This museum has an amazing assortment of MiGs, a rarity in the Western world.
